Chronic insomnia can lead to anxiety and depression

By admin | Jul 11, 2007

According to a study conducted by Dag Neckelmann, MD, PhD, of Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway collected from 25,130 adults, chronic insomia can lead to the development of anxiety disorders and depressions. Though on a personal note, this seems like common sense as chronic insomia affects one’s concentrations and perhaps leads to the development of hallucinations.

Insomnia is a classification of sleep disorders in which a person has trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early. These disorders may also be defined by an overall poor quality of sleep and is the most commonly reported sleep disorder where 30 percent of adults have symptoms of insomnia.Less than 10 percent of adults are likely to have chronic insomnia. Insomnia is more common among elderly people and women.

Anyway, doctor advise is to check patients for sign of anxiety disorder and depression once they are diagnosed with chronic insomnia.

I personally have had experience with insomnia and various attempts to come up with a solution to solve my insomnia. Wanna know the best trick I’ve found yet? Exercise. Seriously, the day’s that I go and work out till my arms and body parts want to fall off are the days which I have the absolute BEST sleep! Keep that in mind those of you that are having trouble.

    Hi,

A well known psychiatric disorder that is defined by a constant decrease of mood and interest in regular activities and diminished capability to feel pleasure is clinical Depression.

The majority of people with this disease never ask for help. The worst part is that a big percentage of the would be given an appropriate therapy. Thanks for the wonderful article.

I ALWAYS THOUGH IT WAS THE OTHER WAY AROUND. THIS GIVES ME ANOTHER HOPE TO FIND RELIEF FROM THE INSOMNIA. I HAVE NOTICED THOUGH THAT HAVING AN EXCERCISE ROUTINE HAS IMPROVED MY SLEEP AND ALSO DEPRESSION.

This is surprising to me. I never would’ve thought about this. I have noticed that reading a book before going to bed helps quite a bit and when I’m able to work out I tend to sleep way better too.

I totally agree with Erin. Working out helps out so much. Not only do you sleep better, but you get all the stress out too.

Yes I am one of those who can never fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up too early. I do notice that when i keep my self busy during the day and or work out everyday, I find my self able to fall asleep faster than usual.

I had an uncle who suffered from insomnia and it is only now, after reading your post, I understood how it is and the developments going on in curing this disease. I know there are also new ways to really achieve in controlling anxiety and depression naturally. I have learned this through eft training which is really helpful.

I was starting to accept that I was just naturally a bad sleeper. I had tried so many things to help me – I had a cupboard full of them! I dreaded going to bed at night. I woke tired and grouchy each day. I bought this sleep psychology program that was so simple to use. It works! I have so much more energy during the day, I don’t fight with my boyfriend anymore and sleep well at night!

I have bouts of insomnia, but never depression. I just got up and did stuff, kept the mind busy. Can’t wallow in it!
